For them whom addicted into lashes even dare to spend much money trying to find the perfect mascara and waking up early every morning just to apply their strip false lashes correctly though sometimes still end up getting not so natural look with visible lash glue. You get all drama of applying false lashes? It’s no surprise that lash extensions become popular in these days. It’s been one of enjoyable alternative for busy woman whom didn’t have much time to do eye makeup but want to keep their eyes look without have to be bothered to do every time lash pinching and gluing.
I had my first experience to try lash extensions applied by one of my certified lashes aesthetician friend, Yolanda Wang (check her official IG – yolanda_makeupartist). Since it could be customized, she asked me about kind of thickness and length of lash extensions that i’d love to wear. I told her that I want it to be appeared as natural as it could be (As if it could, even to be seen as i’m not wearing any extensions at all, HAHA). In approximate 90 minutes, she has done it well, felt so light to wear – Thank you, Yolanda – I loved it! My lashes instantly look more tapering but natural.

Dangerouslashes extensions after effect: addiction of seeing yourself in mirror and continuously winking yourself 😉
Imagine how you will wake up looking fabulous without doing anything every morning with those dark long lashes.
I know. No surprise it’s so tempting.
But before you book your lashes extensions appointment and add these fabulous falsies to your look, there are some things you need to know more and consider about getting eyelash extensions – The guidelines, the reasons for and against.
What is eyelash extensions and How its processes? Eyelash extensions are semi permanent falsies aims to make your eyelashes seem longer, thicker and more tapering using the extension methods. The artificial eyelashes is glued by the aesthetician one by one near your original eyelashes using a semi-permanent glue that claimed safe for eyes and won’t damage your natural lash. Your eyes need to be cleaned from any dirt and eye make up before the lash extension is applied. To prevent the glue from getting stick on your lower part of eyes when the falsies being applied, your aesthetician will set your lower lashes down to the skin and place a pair of eye pads on top of it. Applying a new full set of lashes can spend around 90 to 180 minutes. It takes 60-120 individual lashes glued to each eye, depending on the lashes-look that you want to have.
What are the most common types of lash extensions? There are many types of lash extensions these days but these four are the most popular: synthetic, silk, mink, and faux mink with variety of colors and sizes available in ranges 6mm to 17mm. You can achieve different style of look depending on the length and thickness of the lashes you request to be applied. You can adding some extra millimeters to your outer lashes to give you a dolly eye style or adding a consistent long lashes across the eye to give you more dramatic kind of look. The main differences between synthetic, silk and mink comes down to the firmness and its basic material.
- Synthetic: made from a polished acrylic material and are the firmest and sturdiest among the others type. In appearance, they are shinier and seems glossy. It gives more fantastic look when applied quite thickly. They hold their curl better due to their firmness but heavier in weight. For many people they are not so great option because the heavier its weight means the shorter its term to be worn. Your lashes extension fall down quicker, along with your natural one.
- Silk: mid-weight type of lash extensions, which are finer, more flexible and can hold on longer than the synthetic one. It feels more comfortable to be worn because its has lighter weight. Silk is fit well to be applied on clients which has a weaker natural lashes. Its dramatic sets are the most preferred options for brides who need a glamour look – full and long – lashes yet seem natural.
- Mink: real mink lashes is made from the mink tail, usually either from chinese mink or siberian mink. It usually loves to be used by older clients or those who want to have for an extremely soft natural look. The enticement of using this mink hair is they have a highly fine and natural quality that you cannot get from synthetic material. It gives you a feathery soft natural look and usually last longer because they are so light – Its applicable to set several mink extensions in one original lash. The shortcoming of this mink hair are its expensive price and it also do not come curled. It needs to be permed and manually curled at home to maintain that curled look. I personally do not really recommend this type of falsies because it will be an animal cruelty if we use a real mink fur for lash extensions.
- Faux Mink: a man poly-fiber made of lashes, designed to imitate real mink fur and come in a wide variety of lengths, diameters and curls, which is great to customize a different looks for each client. It is the most popular last extensions used by lash artists today because its light, low maintenance and has better permanent curl. These faux mink lashes are slightly bolder and shinier than silk and mink but less bold than the synthetic one. With proper care, they won’t tend to drop or twist so it will be last longer and fit best if your own lashes is sheer.
How long it will last? The lash extensions are normally last long throughout your full growth natural lash cycle — up to six to eight weeks. But typically a full set of lashes extensions keep looking good (stay complete) for only 2 to 3 weeks. Since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, it will fall naturally one by one along with your original eyelashes. To maintain your desired look, you should anticipate getting your lashes retouch every three to four weeks. Durability of your lashes extensions also depends on your aesthetician skill to apply it and your patience aftercare to follow the rules to maintain your lashes during use.
It’s important to have your lash extensions done by a pro. This work needs to be done near your eyes so finding someone who have an aesthetician licensed and certified to apply your lashes is definitely a must. Just because one of your friend’s friend swears (and crossed finger) that she knows how to apply eyelash extensions learned by YouTube with a DIY kit she bought somewhere doesn’t mean you will let a self-learner technician applying glue near your eyes. Wrong applying technique can cause irritation that harmful for your eyes (even may caused blind – in some worst case), losing your original eyelashes and messy look where you may find gaps between the falsies and your original lashes. When an inexperienced aesthetician applies the lashes, she often applies a single lash to three to four original lashes. It making clumps which make the lashes fall out prematurely. Do research on your lash expert and don’t embarrassed to ask about credentials. Ask her to show pictures of her previous works and ask her to explain the ingredients contained in her glue. You need to be sure that she can verify there is no harmful ingredients (like formaldehyde) in the products she is using on your lashes. Professionals use fine quality products and have been properly trained to apply the lashes without damaging your natural lashes (or even your eyes). If you see harmful ingredients in her glue, lashes twist and stuck together, find another technician.
Ask your aesthetician to do a patch test. Sometimes, allergic reactions are possible to happen. There are different types of glue based on one’s sensitivity. Make sure to ask you lash aesthetician to do a patch test to determine if you’re sensitive or not to the glue she’s using. If you experience any burning or discomfort during the procedure, causing your eyes to tear or cry, you should told your aesthetician immediately because it’s a sign that your eyes are allergic to her glue.
7 important rules to maintain your lash extensions to stay intact: Now you’ve got those fabulous long and pretty lashes, you need to take an extra attention to take care of these expensive additions — and may mean that you need switching up your routine
- Avoid eye contact with water or oil for 24 hours after installation. For the first day, you also need to avoid hot showers, swimming and sauna
- It is recommended not to use waterproof mascara and oil based makeup remover near your eyes. The glue used is vulnerable to oil so it will easily peel off the lashes extensions. Use water based mascara or makeup remover that is oil free
- Do not rubbed your eyes with towel
- Do not sleeping face down on a pillow
- Clean your lashes. You may be wary of getting your extensions wet, but it’s actually important to wash your lashes daily. Our eyelashes exist to prevent dirt and debris from entering our eyes, but this grime can grow up on extensions and may cause itching and infections if it’s never be cleaned. You may rinse your lashes gently with diluted baby shampoo (one tablespoon of baby shampoo for one cup of distilled water) once a day. Do not let water from the shower fall directly on your eye area because the pressure will make your extension loosen and shed faster
- Lightly brush your lashes throughout the day (especially after sleep and after your eyelashes get wet) to avoid it tangled and looking messy
- If you are bored or no longer wish to use it again, you can come back to your aesthetician to take it off. Never try to forcibly pluck out your lashes out by yourself. It may cause hair loss to both your lash extensions and your original lashes
That was all about lash extensions that i can share with you. I think it is worth to try at least once in lifetime for your own self and enjoy some weeks getting loads of compliments from your lover and friends. 😉
